The Space Between the Notes is an essay on groove. It is also the final project for the jazz studies class of the young trumpet player and composer Klaus Stroink at the Catalonia College of Music (ESMUC). It is his first concert as a leader. Stroink theoretically dissects this tricky concept of groove, a musical parameter that gives the sensation of movement, and applies it to the composition of a conceptual work that shows us, from different perspectives: convergence and divergence, repetition, ideas of fullness and emptiness, being inside or outside, and the inseparable viscerality of the work of youth. “It is certainly my most worked-on artistic expression and also the riskiest, and I’m aware that it may be over the top."
"I didn’t want to deprive myself of any melody, groove or idea too complex to play or to understand because, ultimately, that’s what I get tired of doing when I compose.”
