Kaisa Mäensivu, the creator of Kaisa’s Machine, blends the melodic precision of the Nordic scene with the vibrant energy of New York in a musical approach that pushes the boundaries of contemporary jazz. Since forming her ensemble in 2015 and making her recording debut in 2017 with In the Key of K, the Finnish composer and bassist has taken her musical vision to a new level, characterized by music that is both emotional and complex. After settling in New York, her international career has grown exponentially, culminating in her second album Taking Shape, released under the prestigious Greenleaf Music label of Dave Douglas.

Known for her powerful and musically demanding presence, Mäensivu stands out not only through her exceptional bass playing but also for the depth of her compositions. Her music is both celebratory and introspective: featuring infectious, uplifting rhythms while also carrying a deep and reflective essence.
