What kind of circus did you expect to see? This artist’s unique, personal style brings together circus and visual arts.

Inline skates, permanent percussion, balances, an omnipresent ceramic ball... You won’t be bored for a second in the fast-paced show of an artist with a certain approach to circus. The acrobat on stage tirelessly turns cymbals in balance while playing percussion, defying all possible conventions with a bicycle and sliding on his skates. This is a frantic race that, yes, will sometimes end in breakdowns, alluding to the balances, contrasts and small disasters of people’s daily lives. Here, the pleasure of risk and the most joyful form of stress are in charge. The frenzied activity you’ll see on stage will overwhelm your senses, but a ceramic sphere constantly rotating around the stage will provide calm and security.

Julian Vogel and Cie. unlisted, based in Basel, Switzerland, explore the unique properties of ceramics and movement, creating stage universes for conventional and unconventional spaces. The company’s artistic projects are influenced by Roman Müller, one of Vogel’s most prominent partners, outside eyes and co-creators since 2019. The company’s China Series (exploring ceramic diabolos; 2021) and Crescendo (2024) projects have earned them international attention. Julian Vogel received a circusnext 2020/21 award, is an associate artist at House of Panama (Netherlands) and participates in European artistic projects as a performer, playwright and music producer.  In 2023, he founded his company, Cie. unlisted. Julian Vogel was selected for the Artist-LAB programme at Kaserne in Basel for the 2025–26 season.
