Composer Magnus Lindberg, internationally renowned for decades resident composer of the New York Philharmonic from 2009 to 2012, recently completed a concert for viola that is to be heard for the first time in Spain. It’s a sonic work reminiscent of impressionist painting, in which the grandeur of the Nordic landscape traces an emotionally intrepid frieze, with the vital presence of soloist Lawrence Power helping to “paint” this musical picture.
Including work by Lindberg in the program at L’Auditori is nothing new, and this time it will be paired with one of the most beloved compositions of the symphonic repertoire: Brahms’ Symphony No 2. The work stands out for its lyricism that brings it closer to his experience of nature, through the spontaneity of its hymns of unquestionable beauty.
