Jocelyn Gould, winner of the 2021 JUNO Award, has been described as “a leader of the next generation of great jazz guitarists” by Howard Paul, CEO of Benedetto Guitars. Her unique style blends the influences of Wes Montgomery, Grant Green, Joe Pass, and Kenny Burrell into a personal, exciting sound full of energy and sensitivity. In addition to being a guitarist, she is also a vocalist and has performed and recorded internationally both as a leader and alongside artists such as Freddy Cole, Bria Skonberg, Michael Dease, and Etienne Charles.
Jocelyn’s beginnings were self-taught: “I started out as a self-taught guitarist when I was a teenager. My older brother showed me power chords.” Her love of jazz came later, after seeing a jam session at university: “I was studying science and had never played the guitar in front of anyone before.”
Her music reflects a balance between technical virtuosity, melodic sensitivity, and communicative power. Each performance conveys freshness and authenticity, integrating improvisation, original compositions, and reinterpretations of standards. The combination of these qualities has made her one of the most respected voices in contemporary jazz guitar.
Jocelyn surrounds herself with top-tier musicians to shape a repertoire that fuses tradition and modernity, creating a constant dialogue between guitar, voice, and the rest of the ensemble, where each piece becomes a complete and immersive musical experience.
