festival cine jueu
This year's festival is a clever mix of rip-roaring classics and newer, fresher works which have been earning rave reviews in major film festivals across the globe. Friday will see Sundance sensation of 1999 Train de Vie shown at Cinema Maldá at 4pm, while Raffa, which was presented at Cannes in 2009, and legendary film Sophie's Choice, will both attract a crowd on Saturday at 10pm and 6pm respectively.
One of the highlights of the festival, however, will be Ajami, which has taken the cinematic world by storm in the past 12 months, winning the Caméra d'Or at Cannes and being nominated for the best foreign language Oscar at this year's Academy Awards. It will be shown on Saturday at 10pm. French film Le Dernier Metro will also be shown that same day at 8pm.
The following days will show re-runs of classics such as Gentleman's Agreement on Thursday, or modern favourites of the ilk of Cinco Días Sin Nora. The final day, Saturday, will be dedicated to short films. Entry is free to this event, along with a tasty accompaniment of falafel. All in all, a festival worth looking out for.
