Born 1901, Jardiel Poncela established himself as an untraditional playwright and pioneer for his time, incorporating elements of humour and the absurd into his plays. Throughout his career, Poncela battled against criticism and censorship during the Franco era. However, his work and perserverance earnt him must respect amongst his industry peers, with several of his plays adapted to the silver screen, many of which, such as 1934's Angelina o el honor de un brigadier, are still very much celebrated today.
