James Carter Organ Trio
Mas i Mas Festival
to
Jamboree Jazz Club Plaça Reial 17, 08002 Barcelona
A travel companion of Ravi Coltrane, Chris Potter, Nicholas Payton, Eric Reed, Kurt Elling and many other musicians who renewed the jazz scene during the 1980s and 1990s, James Carter remains one of the great saxophonists of recent times. Discovered by trumpeter Lester Bowie, Carter made his debut with a celebrated album in 1993, a prelude to a fruitful career with forays into all kinds of genres, including rock and free jazz. Indeed, James Carter has always been a restless artist, steeped in all sorts of influences—from funk to classic jazz, through rock and fusion—who refuses to be classified into any particular school.
A prime example of his versatility as an artist can be found in his approach to the organ group, with which he has released albums like Out of Nowhere (2005), Heaven on Earth (2009, with John Medeski), and Live in Newport (2019). At Jamboree, he will perform with Gerard Gibbs and Alex White, musicians he has been collaborating with for years.
