Irene Reig’s career began with the Sant Andreu Jazz Band and later took her from Amsterdam and Philadelphia back to Barcelona. The saxophonist has established herself as a key figure in the current jazz scene in Catalunya, where women are gaining greater visibility and bebop-rooted jazz is returning to the forefront, with Brazilian music serving as a vital aesthetic reference. With her energy and expressive force, the Barcelona-born musician stands at the forefront of a new generation whose work draws on a specific period of American jazz, infused with a contemporary twist.
