Intrusive Dialogues. Everything Is the Present
to
Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) Palau Nacional, Parc de Montjüic, 08038 Barcelona
The emergence of the art of the second avant-garde that took place after the Spanish Civil War and the Second World War, represents not only a logical extension of the chronology of the NMAC collection but also the appearance of a series of works that, for their spirit of modernity and their transgression of cultural categories and traditional technical formats, calls into question the ways of looking and the very conception of a work of art.
In as much as it brings us closer to the sensibilities and problems of contemporaneity, the art of the second half of the twentieth century forces us to reflect critically on history. Intrusive Dialogues proposes the inclusion in the museum’s rooms of a selection of eight works by the Fundació Suñol belonging to the second avant-garde. These works will enter into dialogue, by means of analogy or contrast, with historical works of medieval, renaissance, baroque, modernist art, etc.
Intrusive Dialogues represent a break with the linear narratives of history within the museum’s collections and a new way of articulating the visit, establishing stimulating and suggestive relationships. This project aims to put to the test stimulating and contrasting experiences available to the general public as well. All the works will have a specific presentation, extended textual information so as to introduce them and a drop-down map of the location of the pieces.
