I Still Love You
Now in its 13th year, the Barcelona International Gay and Lesbian Film Festival is back with ten days of some of the best LGBT films from around the world. Each year, the festival centres around a particular theme relevant to the LGBT community. This year, in answer to the punitive laws that still exist in many countries and the violence suffered as a result from gender-based discrimination, films about the struggle for human rights in 20 countries have been scheduled. Some directors have taken great risks making these films, such as director Darya Perelay (short fllm, I Love Her) from the Ukraine, where public demonstration of homosexuality is a crime.
Many of the films' directors are present during the screenings and there is usually the opportunity for some discussion and debate after the film. Films include animations, feature films, shorts and documentaries and compete in a number of categories including Best Feature Film, Best Documentary, and Best Short Film. There are also audience awards.
A total of 45 films will be shown between the Filmoteca and Casa Amèrica. Many of the screenings are free, though some cost €4.
