Identities: From the Baby Boom to the Deconstruction of Gender. Part I
to
CaixaForum Barcelona Av. de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia 6-8, 08038 Barcelona
The adaptation of the American dream for the new generations necessarily implies guaranteeing it will be accessible to all. The gender gap, the first feminist waves and the dissociation between wife, mother and worker generate discourses on femininity that have varied throughout the 20th century. The eruption of LGTBI movements and sexualities considered non-normative also challenge traditional concepts of the American dream, which oscillates between integration and dissent in the modern age.
Two sessions will explore examples of androgynous persons, new masculinities, victims of the AIDS epidemic, gender fluidity and the effect of pop culture —from Madonna to Genesis P-Orridge, from Bowie to Kurt Cobain — as well as art by Keith Haring and David Wojnarowicz, Generation X and the rise of social media.
