Identities: From the Baby Boom to the Deconstruction of Gender. Part II
to
CaixaForum Barcelona Av. de Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia 6-8, 08038 Barcelona
The adaptation of the American dream in the new generations necessarily implies guaranteeing it to all strata of the population (including women). The gender gap, the first feminist wave and the dissociation between wife, mother and worker generates images and discourses about femininity that vary throughout the 20th century.
The eruption of LGTBI movements and sexualities considered "non-normative" also put a twist on the American dream, which oscillates between integration and dissent as the new century approaches. Throughout the two sessions, there will be examples available of androgynous individuals, new masculinities, people affected by the AIDS epidemic, gender fluidity, and how all of this is reflected in pop art (from Madonna to Genesis P-Orridge, from David Bowie to Kurt Cobain), from art by Keith Haring and David Wojnarowicz to Generation X and the rise of social media.
Don’t miss this debate on the changing nature of the American dream.
