This unique proposal led by the renowned Argentine double bassist Horacio "Isoca" Fumero is a sincere and profound tribute to the man who marked his beginning in the international jazz scene: the legendary saxophonist Leandro "Gato" Barbieri.
With a career that began alongside Barbieri on iconic albums such as Chapter One and Chapter Two, and after an unforgettable debut at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1973, Fumero has established himself as a key figure in European jazz, collaborating with great masters such as Tete Montoliu.
Now, more than fifty years later, Fumero takes a step forward to pay tribute to his compatriot and mentor. In this proposal, he combines his own compositions inspired by Barbieri's work with adaptations of his pieces, recreating the essence of the saxophonist in the 21st century.
For this project, Fumero has an exceptional quintet made up of outstanding names from the current jazz scene: Lucía Fumero on piano and vocals, a multifaceted artist with three solo albums who exudes elegance and sensitivity; Rita Payés on trombone, a young promise from the Sant Andreu Jazz Band who has forged her own path; Guillermo Calliero on trumpet and bandoneon, a musician of great solvency and versatility; and Juan R. Berbín, Venezuelan percussionist, master of rhythm and sounds from the roots.
