Who was Erich Wolfgang Korngold? A prodigy, a genius—a composer without whom the Golden Age of Hollywood film music would be incomplete. Praised by Mahler, Strauss and Zemlinsky, Korngold made the leap from composing ballets, operas and concert music in imperial Vienna to shaping the vibrant soundscape of the American film industry from the 1930s to the 1950s.
The Palau celebrates his lush and exquisite Violin Concerto with Soyoung Yoon as soloist and revisits some of the defining scores of that dazzling Hollywood era—a legacy that echoes all the way to John Williams. From "Casablanca" and "Gone with the Wind to Citizen Kane" and "Star Wars," the modernist concert hall will transform into a dream factory woven from reels of celluloid.
