Herbie Hancock was part of that mythical quintet of the pre-electric Miles Davis, which included Wayne Shorter, Ron Carter (also present at the festival this year) and Tony Williams.
These four musicians are legendary in Barcelona because in 1967, Davis decided to leave the city before his concert at the Palau due to a disagreement with his agent. Shorter, Hancock, Carter and Williams ended up playing to a half-empty Palau—a quartet without their leader. 52 years later and 11 years since Hancock's last visit to the Voll Damm Jazz Festival, he now returns to Barcelona at the head of his star quartet, with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums, James Genus on bass and Lionel Loueke on guitar.
