Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB) Carrer de Montalegre 5, 08001 Barcelona
Architect Hashim Sarkis, dean of the School of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), reflects on the work of Ignasi Solà-Morales and highlights its continued relevance today in a lecture that opens the tribute to the Catalan architect on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his death.
In this session, Hashim Sarkis explores some of the key legacies of Ignasi Solà-Morales’s work, whose death is being commemorated in 2026 on the twenty-fifth anniversary of his passing. From his reflections on new urban morphologies and the urgency of rethinking architectural heritage, to the role of architects in the public sphere and how the interplay between theory and history can foster critical architectural practices, this session will bring to light the relevance of Solà-Morales’s architectural thought today.
This lecture inaugurates the series «Critical Perspectives on Contemporary Architecture: Legacies of Ignasi Solà-Morales,» which will take place at various institutions in Barcelona.
