Award-winning choreographer Alexander Ekman is bold, unpredictable, and innovative — much like the Gothenburg Opera’s dance company itself. His visually striking work highlights the self-image of contemporary society, often with a humorous twist. Ekman has created nearly 50 pieces, performed by numerous companies across the globe.

Hammer is a two-act work filled with high-energy, inclusive dance and a distinctly contemporary spirit. It’s a production by Alexander Ekman that premiered during the 2022–2023 season by the Gothenburg Opera Dance Company. The piece stems from Ekman's own desire to create a joyful, entertaining work bursting with energy.The company’s precision and flawless technique merge with Ekman’s choreography in a powerful concept, where dancers surge forward in playful communion — like an explosion of color drawn from the everyday.

As the dancers leave the stage, the audience, immersed in this absorbing universe, receives an invitation that unexpectedly turns into a dark mirror of cold distance and self-absorption: a call for reflection.
