Godspeed You! Black Emperor began to emerge around 1994 in the minds of Efrim Menuck, Mike Moya and Mauro Pezzente. However, it was between 1997 and 2002 when their first four albums arrived to redefine our ideas, giving another meaning to what we could understand as protest music, with the instrumental compositions of their chamber rock, full of feelings, which could perfectly be the soundtrack of alienation and resistance to the latest capitalism.
F#A#∞ (1997) and Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven (2000) soon became classics of the era and genre.
After a hiatus that began in 2003, Godspeed You! Black Emperor returned to the stage in 2010, at the British festival All Tomorrow's Parties. After this meeting, the band has stuck around for more than a decade, with over a hundred sold-out shows and four new albums, for which they received great praise.
