Those who have followed the career of Glen Hansard since his triumph at the Academy Award in the film Once, have witnessed an artistic arc: the journey of a busker from Dublin who rubbed elbows with the greats (Dylan, Van Morrison, Leonard Cohen) and followed the path of the troubadour. But there is another thread through the musicality of Hansard; In his decades as the lead singer of the Irish The Frames, the ambitions of rock and folk coexisted with moments of strangeness, intimacy, and stillness.
This Wild Willing, his fourth full-length album is a collection of songs that follows this second path, in which he marries the inventive sound of the best of his work in The Frames with the discipline he has found as a composer and lyricist in his career as a soloist.
