Gershwin’s characteristic swing gives his 1925 Piano Concerto a jazzy feel, with a predominance of percussion and brass from the outset. With Judith Jáuregui playing the solo part, the piece stands out for its dynamism and rhythmic recreation of modern life.
It will be followed by a more contemplative recent work, completed in 2025 and commissioned by the Barcelona Symphonic Band (BMB), from the Catalan composer Elisenda Fàbregas. His Canticle of Exaltation wonderfully showcases the ensemble’s expressiven potential.
The inaugural concert will also feature a scenic poem based on García Lorca’s tragedy Bodas de Sangre ("Blood Weddings"), conceived by León Durán in 2022. It is a work that musically captures the story’s dramatic tension, bringing the listener closer to an understanding of the fateful destiny described in Lorca’s work.
