To know Ganavya's biography is to begin to discover her music because they are inextricably intertwined. She was born in New York but grew up in India in a Tamil family and later moved back to the United States. Her mixed background is carefully woven like a braid in her songs, in which several definitions of folklore coexist—as if the river Ganges ran between the Appalachians in a parallel reality.

After releasing two albums in 2024, like the sky I've been too quiet and Daughter of a Temple, she has now released Nilam, a record of jazz-folk craftsmanship that comes to us wrapped as carefully as one would wrap a family jewel. It's not coincidental: Ganavya learned music from her grandmothers and mother, and now she shares that legacy with the world.
