Guatemalan singer-songwriter Gaby Moreno embodies, like few other artists, a global and pan-American idea of music, which draws on blues, jazz, soul and R&B, but also on border sounds, boleros, joropos, calypso, tropicalism and folk.
A good example of this was the extraordinary ¡Spangled! (2019), an album in which, handling herself fluently in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and accompanied by the legendary arranger and composer Van Dyke Parks or the no less legendary Jackson Browne, she erected a monument to the richness of Latin American music. Alegoría (2022), her seventh album, followed a similar path, but it’s Dusk (2024), her most recent work, which undoubtedly elevates her as an artist of enormous transversal category, capable of also approaching folk and blues with mastery.
