An important figure in modern photography, Sekula (1951-2013) focussed his work on critiquing politics and economy. In this dedication to his work and what is his first solo exhibition in Spain, he continued this exploration by analysing how globalisation has had an effect on maritime work. Through his photographs he was able to provide a critique of capitalism, creating visual essays that use imagery from various cities, including Barcelona. The maritime location of the city, along with its post-Olympic boom were something that fascinated the late photographer, evident in his displayed works.
