Film still from "Folktales," directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady (USA, Norway, 2025).
A group of teenagers leave behind their daily lives to spend a year at a high school located in remote Northern Norway. In an extreme environment, without exams or technology, the young people learn to live together, care for sled dogs, and face the Arctic climate. As the months go by, the experience puts their fears, insecurities, and emotional bonds to the test, forcing them to assume responsibilities and redefine their identity far from social and digital pressure.
Directed by Heidi Ewing and Rachel Grady, Folktales portrays their personal growth with an intimate, humanist gaze, combining landscape, effort, and emotion. The documentary reflects on alternative educational models and on the need for disconnection and community in a generation marked by anxiety and hyper-connectivity.
Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Catalan (March 11th) and Spanish (March 14th).
A film in the 2026 edition the Americana Film Festival.
