Foguerons de Sa Pobla, in Gràcia.
While the bonfires for this traditional event will be lit in Gràcia on Saturday 25 January, numerous activities will precede them during the week beforehand.
On 25 January there are activities in C/ Progrés from 11:30 to 19:00 (including the children’s theatre show Rondalla de Sant Antoni at 13:00) and a new edition of Folk als Mercats in the district at noon.
The evening starts with popular culture groups from Gràcia and Sa Pobla gathering in Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia. The opening dances start at 19:30 and a procession then heads to Plaça de la Virreina, where one of the bonfires will be lit.
This year there are a dozen bonfires. They can be found in: Pl. Diamant, Pl. Poble Romaní, Pl. Sol, Pl. Virreina, C/ Berga, C/ Fraternitat de Baix, C/ Fraternitat de Dalt, C/ Joan Blanques de Baix de Tot, C/ Llibertat, C/ Puigmartí, C/ Tordera and C/ Verdi. The bonfires will be lit at 9.30 pm.
Meat is cooked around the bonfires, accompanied by traditional songs and dance.
The Festa de Sa Ximbomba is in Plaça del Diamant at 21:30, with songs and xeremia pipe music and a performance by the Catalan choir Cor de Carxofa. At the same time, a celebration gets under way in Plaça de la Virreina with friction drums and glossa artists from Sa Pobla, followed by dancing from the groups Roada de Mallorca and Cofre Antic d’Inca (23:00).
