In 1922, German Expressionist film director F.W. Murnau released Nosferatu, a Symphony of Horror. Although the film was an unauthorised adaptation of Bram Stoker’s classic novel Dracula (1897), Murnau’s vampire film more than distinguished itself, and the scene where the creature’s sinister shadow creeps up a staircase remains one of the most celebrated images in the history of horror cinema. The silent film will be screened at Filmoteca de Catalunya on November 30th, with live music performed by Joan Pineda.
