The u22 Barcelona Young Film Festival showcases the finest up-and-coming filmmakers on the Catalan film scene. This year, u22 festival celebrates its eighth edition with a six-day program packed with screenings, panel discussions, open-air sessions, talks and much more. The Official Section showcases 20 short films made by filmmakers under the age of 22, with the year's best young productions, both local and international. In addition to giving voice to new, yet-to-be-discovered perspectives, the Official Section presents new works by established filmmakers. In addition to giving a voice to new perspectives yet to be discovered, the Official Selection will present new works by filmmakers such as Víctor Soho (winner of the 2023 L’Alternativa National Award) and Emilio Hupe (winner of the 2025 D’A Collective Short Film Award).

Argentine director and producer Laura Citarella (Trenque Lauquen, Ostende, La Flor) will also be present at this edition. The festival will host the first retrospective dedicated to the filmmaker in Spain, where her early works in short format can be discovered, in contrast to her well-known preference for feature-length films. u22 will also pay tribute to Catalan filmmaker Marta Balletbò-Coll (Costa Brava, Sévigné), director of the first Catalan lesbian feature film in history. The festival will screen three short films by the director, including Class, a previously unseen work made during her time as a film student at Columbia University. The screening will be followed by a conversation between Marta Balletbò-Coll and filmmakers Marc Ferrer (Cut!, Laugh, Sing, Maybe Cry) and Zaida Carmona (My Friend's Friend), a dialogue between three key voices in Catalan queer cinema.

The program also features a wide range of parallel activities such as seminars for professionals, specialist workshops, retrospectives, round tables, pitches and the festival's screenplay laboratory.
