An evening held as part of the Casals Day–Barcelona, a celebration and commemoration of the historical and symbolic link between Pau Casals and the Palau, and the international reach of the master musician. This concert brings the chamber music season to a close in a most prestigious way and is one of the highlights of the celebrations of the 50th anniversary of Casals' death.
The career and international reach of Pablo Ferrández has grown exponentially. Praised for his authenticity, the cellist is endowed with a “pop-idol magnetism, superb technique and exhilarating musicality,” according to the Los Angeles Times. Ferrández won a scholarship from the Pau Casals Foundation and ECHO Rising Stars, was deservedly recognized at the XV International Tchaikovsky Competition, and has won the Princess of Girona Award (2018) and the prestigious Opus Klassik Award for Best Artist of the Year (2021). In recent seasons he has collaborated with celebrated artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter, Khatia Buniatishvili, Denis Kozhukhin, Gidon Kremer, Yuja Wang, Beatrice Rana and many outstanding orchestras.
The program focuses on composers and works which are especially dear to Pablo Ferrández’ heart, and that he likes to share with his friend Luis del Valle. It's a varied program indeed, from the charming classicism of Beethoven's Variations to the transgressive classicism of Shostakovich's Sonata, from the moving spirituality of Bruch's Kol Nidrei to the passionate sensuality of Franck's Sonata.

- D. Xostakovitx: Sonata in D minor, op. 40
