Just over a year after the Colombian artist's death, Barcelona hosts the most comprehensive exhibition of Fernando Botero's work ever held in Spain and the first major exhibition dedicated to him.
The exhibit pays tribute to one of the most important artists of the 20th century, recognized for his style of monumental volumes and vibrant colors that cam to be known as "Boteroism." Covering more than 60 years of his artistic career, with more than 110 works on display, the exhibition features a wide variety of techniques and formats, from sculptures, oil paintings and watercolors to sanguine, charcoal and pencil drawings, with pieces from the painter's different series dedicated to Latin America, the circus, religion, still life and reinterpretations of great art classics.
It will also be the first time that two of Botero's masterpieces will be on display in Spain: Las Meninas de Velázquez and Homenaje a Mantegna, a painting recently discovered by Lina Botero through Christie's from a private collection in the United States.
