Film still from "Fantastique" directed by Marjolijn Prins (Belgium, France, The Netherlands, 2025).

Director Marjolijn Prins takes us to Guinea-Conakry, where fourteen-year-old Fanta divides her days between school, the care for her sick mother and her fiery dream: to shine as an acrobat in the Amoukanama circus. As one of the few girls in the group, she seeks her balance in a world where expectations, traditions and gender roles limit her freedom. Prince lets documentary and magical realism blend together fluently: night photography in magnetic shades of blue and an animated nature mirror Fanta’s body and discipline. Intimate friendships and music that flows through her days like a heartbeat form her inner search for a voice of her own. The result is a poetic coming-of-age film about becoming a woman, balancing between care and ambition, and the power of dedication and grand dreams.

A film in the 2026 edition of the Choreoscope, Barcelona Dance Film Festival.
