By far two of the most influential musicians of their generation, the duo of pianist Ethan Iverson and saxophonist Mark Turner is one of the most exquisite offerings in contemporary jazz. Both members of drummer Billy Hart's quartet, Iverson and Turner joined forces as a duo to release one of those timeless albums, Temporary Kings. Featuring almost entirely original music, with the exception of a Warne Marsh piece, the album moves between sounds reminiscent of Maurice Ravel (Lugano) and the blues (Unclaimed Freight).
"Mark is dedicated to truth and beauty at a much higher level than most,” says the pianist about his colleague, who in turn has this to say about Iverson: “Among the things I like about him is that he wants to be personal, he wants to play things that are musically his own, especially when it comes to the harmonic realm […]. Because even if he can play the same chords as another pianist, they sound very different when he uses them.” Chamber jazz, sublime, moving.
