Recognized as "the Johnny Cash of Cuba" for his iconic presence with a black hat, cowboy boots, and a guitar in his hands, Eliades Ochoa is one of the most beloved voices in Cuban music.
Born in Santiago de Cuba into a humble family, Ochoa began playing the guitar and the Cuban tres at a very young age. He soon became a regular at the Casa de la Trova and led the renowned Cuarteto Patria, with whom he spread traditional Cuban music all over the world. His participation in the legendary Buena Vista Social Club, alongside icons such as Compay Segundo, catapulted his career by contributing his voice and guitar to emblematic songs such as Chan Chan and Cuarto de Tula.
His latest album, Guajiro, marks a new stage of artistic maturity, offering a collections of original and reflective songs that capture the wisdom of a life dedicated to music. In it, Ochoa joins forces with international artists such as Charlie Musselwhite, Rubén Blades, and Joan As Police Woman, creating a unique fusion of son cubano, blues, bolero, and more. The album explores his most personal experiences, from childhood memories to an ode to nature, proving that Ochoa is not only a guardian of Cuban tradition but also a creator capable of exploring new horizons.
