El Concierto de Aranjuez
What did Beethoven and Rodrigo have in common? They both enjoyed a good debate with their friends. Both pieces were said to be written by their respective composers after heated intellectual discussions with with friends.
The Concerto of Aranjuez is the most widely interpreted guitar concerto of all time. It's a piece known for its balance and its ingenuity. The symphony orchestra does not hide the sound of the guitar, and Rodrigo’s imaginative arrangements allow us to visualize the Gardens of Aranjuez: we hear the sound of the birds and the murmur of the water from the fountains. We can even almost smell the perfume of its flowers.
Beethoven called Symphony no. 8 a "small symphony," not because of its lesser magnitude but him but because of its shorter-than-usual duration. He always spoke of it with great affection because of its extroverted, happy sound.
