Well on their way to a three-decade career, Zachary Cole Smith and his band DIIV can say that their music has perfectly captured the spirit of their time not once, but twice. The first time, at the dawn of their career, it was 2012 and they perfectly embodied that prototype of a band of fuzzy guitars that so defined that period in musical history.
The second, today, when a whole new generation of bands has infiltrated TikTok and Spotify's viral playlists with shoegaze and dream-pop sounds, these veterans of the scene stand head and shoulders above the rest. DIIV now ratify this generational status with Frog in Boiling Water, their first album in five years.
