Die Fledermaus
to
Gran Teatre del Liceu La Rambla 51-59, 08002 Barcelona

One of the most famous and well-known Viennese operettas, Johann Strauss' Die Fledermaus arrives at the Gran Teatre del Liceu under the hand of Marc Minkowski and his Musiciens du Louvre. Full of love affairs, games of seduction, changing identities and a lot of humor, this operetta from 1874 is a piece that cannot be missed in New Year's concerts around the world.
In this story, Dr. Falke organizes a game of confusion to take revenge on his friend Eisenstein. There is Prince Orlofsky, a marquis, a "chevalier," a Hungarian countess and an artists; but no one is what they claim to be. It's all a masquerade and the whole group ends up in prison. Finally, when all the masks fall and the extramarital affairs are exposed, the revenge of the Fledermaus is revealed.
Premiered in the same theater where 80 years earlier Mozart presented The Magic Flute, Die Fledermaus is the most famous operetta of the “waltz king” and can perhaps be seen as the closest spiritually nineteenth-century relative to the Mozartian universe of the Da Ponte trilogy: full of love entanglements, infidelities, farce, transvestism and a contagious joviality of its score.
