Diada de Sant Jordi 2019
to
Barcelona City Centre 08001 Barcelona

The feast day of Catalunya’s patron saint, Sant Jordi, fills La Rambla, Rambla de Catalunya and Passeig de Gràcia with roses and books.
On April 23rd, tradition dictates that girls give boys a book and boys give girls roses, with stalls selling books of all genres and tables with buckets of red roses appearing on the city’s main streets. The giving of roses is thought to have originated in the 15th century when Barcelona held a Sant Jordi rose fair.
In the early 20th century, books were added to the celebration as Spain established April 23rd as Book Day in honor of Cervantes and Shakespeare. Join the locals for a casual stroll through the city, picking up flowers and a good read for loved ones.
