Fortunato Depero was an Italian who was involved in many mediums; he was a painter, a sculptor, set designer, architect, writer and graphic designer as well as being at the forefront of Italian futurism.
The exhibition, 'Depero and the futuristic reconstruction of the universe' presents a 20-year span of his extended career between 1909 and 1930. This was a significant period that saw the avant-garde movement founded and during which he experienced particular success as a graphic designer in New York, the futurist metropolis par excellence, for two years from 1928 before returning to Italy.
This is the first time Depero is showcased in Spain, and it will give visitors a chance to understand and appreciate the Italian avant-garde and one of its major contributors at a critical time when the movement was beginning. The exhibition has been organised in conjunction with Museu di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Trento e Rovereto as an attempt to raise the profile of this avant-garde artist who is still not that well known in this country.
