Born in Havana and based in New York, pianist and composer Dayramir González is one of the leading names in Latin jazz. At MasiMas ’25, he performs with the V.I.D.A. Cuban Quartet, presenting a selection of Cuban musical styles—from contemporary sounds to Afro-Cuban roots and their connections to jazz.
He is joined by musicians who have collaborated with the likes of Chucho Valdés, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Arturo Sandoval and Terence Blanchard. Trained in Havana and at Boston’s Berklee College of Music, González made his debut at 16 in Óscar Valdés’s band. Praised by Chucho Valdés, his solo career includes albums such as Habana en TRANCe (2007), his brilliant debut; The Grand Concourse (2018), acclaimed by DownBeat; and V.I.D.A. (Verdad, Independencia, Diversidad & Amor) from 2024.
“To say that Dayramir becomes one with the piano is an understatement,” wrote renowned photographer Hal Masonberg, adding: “[Listening to him] is both a gift and a hypnotic experience.”
