D'A Film Festival 2024
to
Spring brings with it one of the most prestigious film festivals in Europe. The D’A Film Festival Barcelona is a cultural event that features an international outlook of the best contemporary auteur cinema, combining the discovery of new talents with established cinematographies. A cinema that, after standing out in the great festivals, stops at an event that celebrates cinephilia and puts in the foreground the creativity, personality and artistic freedom of its directors.
2024 Program
This year's schedule is still in the works but films confirmed so far include Celia Giraldo's debut film Un lugar común (Spain, 2023) which tells the story of ordinary 50-year-old woman who, after a lifetime caring for others, asks herself: now who takes care of me?; Ali Ahmadzadeh's brutal road movie Critical Zone (Iran, Germany, 2023); and Paula Hernández's religious drama El viento que arrasa (Argentina, Uruguay, 2023).
This year's retrospective is dedicated to the brilliant and transgressive French director Catherine Breillat whose electric and evocative new film L'Été dernier (France, 2023) will be screened together with a selection of her filmography.
2023 Program
Last year's agenda included Kirill Serebrennikov's biographical drama Tchaikovsky's Wife (2022, Russia) which chronicles the tumultuous relationship between Pyotr Tchaikovsky and his wife Antonina Miliukova, Paul Schrader's independent crime thriller Master Gardener (2022, USA), and Jamie Sisley's Stay Awake (2022, USA), a gut-wrenching drama of two brothers doing their best to navigate the pressures of teenage life while tending to their mother’s debilitating prescription drug addiction.
The 2023 edition also featured a retrospective of British cult director Joanna Hogg, with screenings of The Souvenir, The Souvenir Part II, Exhibition, Unrelated, Caprice, Archipelago and The Eternal Daughter.
