Cucurucho Valdés' mother is Miriam Valdés, the eldest daughter of Bebo Valdés. She was a key piano teacher in the training of many Cuban pianists, and her father, who left Cuba when she was a child, was a constant memory in her home, one that she passed on to her son.

Now settled in Madrid, it was natural that Cucurucho ended up playing with Javier Colina, one of Bebo's best friends, to whom they pay tribute in this duet recital. "The most important thing is the love he has always had for his grandfather's music," explains Colina. "His way of approaching concerts is similar. He is a Valdés, he was born attached to a piano, he has an incredible technique and belongs to a true lineage of kings of Afro-Cuban piano."
