Critical Episodes
Arguably one of the best art galleries in Barcelona, MACBA is exhibiting an original and exciting new series entitled 'Critical Episodes (1957-2011).
Since the Sixties, modern art has often been associated with world crises; world crises that not only influence and affect art, but the art itself in turn has an impact on the world. This art often acts as a self-reflection, criticism or an attempt to make sense of the world in which we live, during or after a time of periodic crisis.
This new collection brings together various portrayals of what is called today 'systemic crises' and spans three floors of the gallery's expansive space in the Raval. The exhibition takes the form of a sequence or journey of six episodes that are intended by the curators and artists to be read and interrelated with relative autonomy and independent interpretation. Talented artists that are featured include Lara Almarcegui, Judith Barry and Marcel Broodthaers.
Full information about the exhibition, the artists and gallery opening times can be found on MACBA's website here.
