Sociologist Cristina Roldão and geographer Jovan Scott Lewis, prominent voices of anti-racist activism in Portugal and the United States respectively, talk with Tania Safura Adam about the possibility of a narrative of blackness that goes beyond injury.
The freedom struggles of the past decade have rightfully captured the spectacle of violence against Black people across urban contexts. But what if we viewed blackness as a form of life beyond injury, that used the state of injury as strategic deception, a cover for generative practices of urban inhabitation always vulnerable to depreciation and attack? Cristina Roldao, anti-racist activist and pioneer in the decolonization of educational curricula in Portugal, and Jovan Scott Lewis, one of the leading voices the politics of repair in the United States, discuss with Tania Adam the possibility of a narrative of Blackness that goes beyond injury.
Event will be held in English with simultaneous translation service to Catalan.
