Jacob Banks
Born in Nigeria, Jacob Banks moved to England (Birmingham) at the age of thirteen. In his twenties he started singing, playing the guitar and composing songs, making his first steps into "open mic" night in the city's pubs, quickly gaining a good number of followers thanks to his imposing presence as vocalist and to the audacity of his intimate lyrics.
Musically, he defined his style from rich rhythmic textures, an 808 keyboard, African-inspired grooves and a great disposition towards soul. He debuted in January 2013 with the EP The Monologue, which obtained such a reception that soon was opening in the UK for Emeli Sandé, Sam Smith and Alicia Keys. On that foundation, his second EP, The Paradox, which appeared in July 2015, injects another dose of soul energy for the new generations, with the intention of turning it into solace for bad times and battery recharge on Monday mornings. In September 2016 he signed with the Interscope Records label. Among his achievements to date: being the first artist without a signed record contract to appear on the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge program; he won the MOBO prize in 2012, a regional contest in the Birmingham area; he won the musical contest "Are You In" organized by Adidas; his song "Move With You" appeared in the video game "FIFA 15"; and the list goes on... In April of this year he released his third EP The Boy Who Cried Freedom, which continues his crusade to transport soul to the digital era, with American gospel melodies mixed with modern R & B.
