In 2012, the activist collective Pussy Riot gained maximum public exposure after an action held in the Cathedral of Christ the Savior in Moscow, where they performed with colorful balaclavas a punk prayer to ask the mother of God to free Russia from Putin. Since then, Pussy Riot became the masked symbol of the protests against the political situation in the country. What role does anonymity play in a context of authoritarianism and surveillance? What happens when the mask falls and one faces media overexposure?
In this session, activist Maria Alekhina will talk with journalist Manel Alías, former correspondent in Moscow, about the subversive power of the mask and the transformative capacity of art, following her maxim "anyone can be Pussy Riot."
The conversation will be held in both Catalan and English, with translation into Catalan.
