Hartmut Rosa, Professor of Sociology and director of the Max Weber Center for Advanced Cultural and Social Studies, will speak with philosopher Daniel Gamper and journalist Eudald Espluga about the importance of recognizing the limits of the relationship between humans and their environment.
Over the last year, faith in uninterrupted progress has been shaken by the evidence that humanity cannot control everything. In his latest book, The Uncontrollability of the World (published in Spanish as Lo indisponible by Herder Editorial), Harmut Rosa analyses how living without limits has led us to a situation of collapse from which we can only escape if we are able to rethink our relationship with the world. Instead of returning to former normality, based on mindless growth, Rosa suggests that we should take advantage of the present crisis to create a society that is conscious of the dangers of assuming that everything is at the disposal of humans. Will we be able to take this step? What political and social decisions must be made for this to be possible?
