Barcelona is a city open to the Mediterranean Sea. Its famous beaches and its classical and lyrical music offerings are two of its greatest attractions. What if we could enjoy both at the same time? Breeze, salt, warmth and the excitement of the city’s best orchestras and choirs. In this city, everything is possible.
The first concert on July 9th features the Choir and Symphony Orchestra of the Gran Teatre del Liceu, conducted by the renowned Pablo Assante and Sergi Cuenca. The evening's repertoire includes the iconic A Midsummer Night’s Dream by Felix Mendelssohn and a selection of symphonic excerpts from Mar i Cel by maestro Albert Guinovart. This iconic work of Catalan musical theatre takes us on a thrilling journey of conflict, love, and freedom, with melodies that have touched generations and continue to move audiences everywhere.
The second concert on July 10th brings together the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia (OBC), conducted by its principal conductor Ludovic Morlot, and the Cor de Cambra of Palau de la Música Catalana. The evening will open with Tres danzas españolas by Enric Granados originally composed for piano in 1890 and later orchestrated by Joan Lamote de Grignon in 1933, in a symphonic version that highlights the melodic and rhythmic richness of the original pieces. The central theme of the evening's program is Carmen, an opera that goes beyond a love story to become a powerful musical narrative about the freedom of a woman who chooses to live by her own desires. The selection of excerpts from Georges Bizet’s work will feature soprano Mira Alkhovik in the lead role, with outstanding performances by mezzo-soprano Silvia Tro Santafé, bass-baritone Marko Mimica, and tenor Marcelo Puente.
