Born in Caldes d’Estrac, tenor sax player Gerard Chumilla was a follower of jazz musicians Gerard Nieto and Ivó Oller in Mataró and of Santi de la Rubia at the Taller de Músics. At the age of just 17 years, he made his onstage debut with Jesper Thilo and Lluc Casares at the Tast de Jazz festival.
Chumilla is a great admirer of musicians such as Dexter Gordon, John Coltrane, and Chris Potter. He has become one of the most promising youngsters on the local jazz scene, and made such a mark that two established musicians – Mario Rossy (upright bass) and David Xirgu (drums) – have offered to be his rhythm section for the 2020 session.
They will perform mostly standards and one or two original compositions at Jamboree Jazz Club. There will be two separately-ticketed sets, one at 8pm and one at 10pm.
