Filmed in Guelatao de Juárez, Oaxaca, Chicharras explores life in the fictional town of San Pablo Begú, a Zapotec community that faces a crucial decision: whether or not to accept a mining project that will change its future. At the center of the plot, two women are key figures in the discussion, highlighting the political participation of women in indigenous communities. The film portrays the complexity of the communal organization, in which the inhabitants of the community take turns filling the honorary role of assuming the responsibilities of self-government. This system of communality is one of the central axes of the region's history, one that reflects traditional life and the struggle to defend native lands. 

Film will be screened in original version with subtitles in Catalan.
