Cherry Festival in Sant Climent de Llobregat
Fira de Cireres
to
Sant Climent de Llobregat 08849 Sant Climent de Llobregat
Every first weekend of June, Sant Climent de Llobregat celebrates one of the town's products par excellence: cherries. Sant Climent started planting cherry trees when phylloxera destroyed all the grape vines at the end of the 19th century. Since then, the farmers have held a party to present the best examples of cherries they grow, and it has become one of town's most important festivals.
The Farmers' Market is filled with the stands of local cherry producers where you can compare, taste and purchase the many varieties grown in the area. In addition to the rows and rows of baskets filled with ripe, red cherries, the Fira de Cireres features other local seasonal fruits and vegetables alongside artisanal products, including cherry jam, honey from the flower of the cherry tree, cakes, pies and pastries.
Parallel activities include the trobada de puntaires (lacemakers meeting—kind of like a sewing circle), dancing gegants (giants), traditional music troupes, various sporting events, entertainment for children, a xocolatada (hot chocolate party) and havaneras (a traditional Catalan dance).
